.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> Pendant un mois cet \u00e9t\u00e9, je suis rest\u00e9 en France. D\u2019abord je suis all\u00e9 \u00e0 Saint-Germain-en-Laye avec Maria et Andr\u00e9e, deux autres \u00e9l\u00e8ves du lyc\u00e9e de Winchester, \u00e0 travers un \u00e9change entre les villes de Winchester et Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Apr\u00e8s, je suis rest\u00e9 deux semaines avec ma famille aux Sables d'Olonne, une ville dans l\u2019ouest de la France. Cet \u00e9change m\u2019a permis de conna\u00eetre les familles de Marc et Val\u00e9rie mais aussi de rendre visite \u00e0 ma famille que je n\u2019avais pas vue depuis cinq ans.<\/p>\n

L\u2019ascendance camerounaise de Val\u00e9rie m'a beaucoup fascin\u00e9 et pouvoir comprendre comme elle a rencontr\u00e9 son mari \u00e9tait int\u00e9ressante.<\/p>\n

Pouvoir comprendre comment la vie familiale est en France \u00e9tait un grand objectif pour moi. J'avais h\u00e2te de rencontrer les personnes qui travaillaient au Quai des possibles, le lieu de mon stage, la plupart d'entre eux \u00e9tant \u00e9tudiants, et pouvoir se socialiser avec eux.\u00a0 Le Quai des possibles est une startup qui donne un espace pour\u00a0 que les personnes travaillent ensemble et re\u00e7oivent des conseils pour leurs projets. C'est aussi un espace communautaire o\u00f9 les personnes peuvent louer l\u2019espace pour des \u00e9v\u00e9nements dans la soir\u00e9e. La proximit\u00e9 avec l'universit\u00e9 Science Po m\u2019a permis de conna\u00eetre la vie \u00e9tudiante et de pouvoir mieux comprendre le syst\u00e8me \u00e9ducatif. Une des patronnes du Quai, Laurence, \u00e9tait vraiment gentille et avoir l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 d'apprendre \u00e9tait essentiel pour moi. Je me suis aper\u00e7u que tout le monde travaille beaucoup et \u00e7a m\u2019a donn\u00e9 envie de travailler encore plus dur dans ce que je faisais. Ma visite \u00e0 La ruche d\u00e9veloppement, un autre lieu de l\u2019association \u00e0 Paris, a \u00e9t\u00e9 un des mes moments favoris du voyage. J\u2019ai eu l'occasion de voir en personne comment les gens travaillaient \u00e0 Paris. Les connexions que j\u2019ai faits l\u00e0-bas vont un jour m\u2019aider si je d\u00e9cide de retourner en France pour \u00e9tudier.<\/p>\n

Avec le jumelage, j\u2019ai explor\u00e9 non seulement Saint-Germain-en-Laye mais aussi la r\u00e9gion de l'\u00eele de France. Tout d'abord, j\u2019ai visit\u00e9 la ville et son centre-ville, j\u2019ai d\u00e9couvert comment la ville \u00e9tait royale et pouvoir voir les ch\u00e2teaux et apprendre son histoire \u00e9tait fascinant car j\u2019aime beaucoup l\u2019histoire. Ce voyage en France m\u2019a permis d\u2019utiliser ce que j\u2019ai appris en classe pour pouvoir mieux conna\u00eetre ma propre culture. Pendant la premi\u00e8re semaine, j\u2019ai visit\u00e9 le ch\u00e2teau de Monte Cristo avec Colette. Elle \u00e0 nous explique l\u2019importance du ch\u00e2teau pour l'\u00e9crivain Alexandre Dumas et son histoire. On a aussi rencontr\u00e9 son voisin qui a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 \u00e0 Chicago. Pendant le week-end, mes camarades et moi avons visit\u00e9 Paris et pu voire l\u2019architecture ancienne de Paris et ses monuments \u00e9tait merveilleux. Voir le soleil de l'apr\u00e8s-midi sur la Seine \u00e9tait spectaculaire et l\u2019ambiance \u00e9tait parfaite pour finir notre visite. Apr\u00e8s Paris, je suis all\u00e9 \u00e0 une f\u00eate camerounaise avec ma famille d'accueil. La f\u00eate c\u00e9l\u00e9brait le bapt\u00eame d\u2019un membre de leur communaut\u00e9. Tout le monde \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s amicale et la f\u00eate m\u2019a rappel\u00e9 le Br\u00e9sil avec sa culture Afro-Europ\u00e9enne. Apr\u00e8s, nous sommes aussi all\u00e9s en Normandie avec R\u00e9gine et une des ses amies. J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir \u00e0 parler fran\u00e7ais dans la voiture sur le chemin. L\u2019architecture de la Normandie \u00e9tait aussi moderne et ancienne \u00e0 cause de la destruction pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. On pouvait voir des constructions en bois, comme en Angleterre et aux EUA, mais aussi du modernisme avec Le Havre et son \u00e9glise Saint-Joseph du Havre. J\u2019ai appris que la galette a \u00e9t\u00e9 invent\u00e9e en Normandie et j\u2019ai ador\u00e9 la nourriture qu\u2019on a mang\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

La famille de Val\u00e9rie, dans laquelle je suis rest\u00e9 le plus de temps, \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s sympathique. Leur fils, Adrien, \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s gentil et il me rappelait moi-m\u00eame avec ses go\u00fbts alimentaires tandis que leur fille, Mathilde, \u00e9tait \u00e9nergique et me rappelait\u00a0 ma s\u0153ur quand elle \u00e9tait petite. Ils \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s bien \u00e9lev\u00e9s comme enfants et j'esp\u00e8re qu\u2019ils auront du succ\u00e8s dans leur vie scolaire. J\u2019ai<\/p>\n

aussi connu le projet de Val\u00e9rie qui aide les enfants de la campagne camerounaise dans le but d'apprendre \u00e0 lire et \u00e9crire. La famille enti\u00e8re \u00e9tait incroyable et porte avec eux l'avenir de la France et son succ\u00e8s.<\/p>\n

Pendant la troisi\u00e8me semaine, j\u2019ai explor\u00e9 les jardins de Versailles avec Allen et Julie. Julie, qui venait de Californie, et Allen, qui venait du sud de la France, avaient des histoires fascinantes \u00e0 \u00e9couter et ils \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s charismatiques. J\u2019ai ador\u00e9 ramer \u00e0 Versailles et pouvoir visualiser \u2018l\u2019histoire de chaque coin du jardin \u00e9tait un r\u00eave. Apr\u00e8s cette excursion j\u2019ai visit\u00e9 une foire d\u2019art moderne avec ma famille d'accueil et on a regard\u00e9 ensemble le match f\u00e9minin de football. Apr\u00e8s \u00e7a, moi et mes camarades ont visit\u00e9 les quartiers historiques de Paris comme la Sainte-Chapelle et la Conciergerie. Didier et Brigitte nous\u00a0 ont expliqu\u00e9 leur importance. Ensuite, on a march\u00e9 \u00e0 Paris et on a pu vivre un apr\u00e8s-midi parisien avec ses march\u00e9s et spectacles<\/p>\n

Durant ma derni\u00e8re semaine \u00e0 Saint-Germain-en-Laye j\u2019ai continu\u00e9 \u00e0 rester en contact avec mes coll\u00e8gues de travail. J\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 la Mairie de Saint-Germain-en-Laye Andr\u00e9e et Maria. On a discut\u00e9 avec Mme Sylvia et M. Ren\u00e9 les mesures que la ville faisait pour prot\u00e9ger l'environnement et l\u2019importance des \u00e9changes culturels entre la France et les EUA. Le dernier jour, j\u2019ai mang\u00e9 de la pizza avec Val\u00e9rie et sa famille et c\u2019est ainsi que\u00a0 j\u2019ai termin\u00e9 mon s\u00e9jour en France.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pendant ce voyage, j'ai beaucoup appris de la culture fran\u00e7aise et j'ai eu l'opportunit\u00e9 de pratiquer mon fran\u00e7ais avec les membres du jumelage et des Fran\u00e7ais. Je veux remercier tous mes professeurs de fran\u00e7ais, Mme Anderson,\u00a0 l\u2019organisation jumelage, mes familles d\u2019accueil et toutes les personnes que j\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9es en France pour m\u2019avoir aid\u00e9 \u00e0 explorer et mieux conna\u00eetre\u00a0 la culture fran\u00e7aise.<\/p>\n

.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> I stayed in France for a month this year, first in Saint-Germain-en-Laye with Andrea and \u00a0Maria, two other students of Winchester High School, and later with my family in the Sables-d'Olonne, a city in the west of France. This exchange has allowed me to meet the families of Marc and Valerie but also to resee my own family.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cameroonian ancestry of Valerie was of great interest to me, having a family from all over the world, and her history of how she met her husband reflected one of my parents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being able to see the life of a family in Paris was very fulfilling to me. I was very excited to meet with the people that worked at the Quai des possibles, the place where I would be an intern for two months in France, who were mostly students and being able to socialize with the in French. Le Quai des possibles was a startup that had the goal of offering workspace for people and to help them with their projects, but it also had the objective of being a place where people could pay to host their events at. Its proximity to the local university of Science Po allowed me to better understand the life of the french student and the educational system. One of the startup\u2019s bosses, Lawrence, was very kind to me and helped me learn how everything worked there which was a big goal for me. She even accompanied me on my visit to the \u201cLa Ruche D\u00e9veloppement\u201d, the startup\u2019s chapter in Paris where I had one of my favorite moments in the trip. I was able to explore part of the northwest of Paris and to see how people worked in Paris.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the jumelage, I was able to explore not only Saint-Germain-en-Laye but also the region around it, including Paris, and Normandy. Firstly, after visiting the town and its town-center, I discovered the village was royal and was able to see the local castle and learn about its history. I enjoy history and being able to see how the town\u2019s emblem represents how the kings were born there was fascinating to me. This voyage has allowed me to use what I have learned to better understand my own culture. In the first week, I visited the castle of Monte Cristo with Colette. She explained to us the importance of the castle to the writer Alexandre Dumas and the castle\u2019s long history. We also met her neighbor who studied in Chicago. In the weekend, I and the other students were able to visit Paris and see its ancient, and still beautiful, architecture. I especially enjoy staying in the \u201cchamps de mars\u201d and watching the Paris sunset later in the afternoon. After Paris, I went to a Cameroonian where my host family was celebrating the baptizing of someone. Everyone was friendly and the party reminded me of Brazil with its Afro-European influences. Later, we went to Normandy with Regine and one of her friends. I enjoyed a lot speaking french with her in the car in the way. Normandy was very beautiful and its architecture had both classic and modern influences because of the Second World War. We could see buildings made of wood logs but also those that were made of concrete and were very tall such as Church of Saint-Joseph du Havre in Le Havre. I learned that the galette( a dish) was invented in Normandy and I loved the dishes that we ate.<\/span><\/p>\n

The family of Valery, whom I stayed with the longest, was very kind and welcoming to me. Their son, Adrian, was very nice to me and he reminded of myself with his food taste while Mathilde, his sister, reminded me of my own. They were extremely well raised and I hope that they have a lot of academic success in their lives. I also learned about Valery\u2019s project to help children in the countryside of Cameroon to learn and write when otherwise they would not have the chance to. The whole Family carried with them my hope of a better France.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the third week, I explored the gardens of Versaille with Allen and Julia. Julia, who came from California, and Allen, her husband from southern France. They had interesting stories to tell and were very helpful to us. I loved to row in Versailles and be able to visualize the history that happened there through imagination. After this trip, I went with my host family to a local art gallery and would later watch together with the Women's World Cup. Later in the week,<\/span><\/p>\n

I and my friends visited the historic neighborhoods of Paris like the Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie. Didier et Brigitte explained to us their importance and walked through their history. After, we were able to experience a classic Parisian afternoon with its markets and public shows.<\/span><\/p>\n

In my last week, I continued to keep in contact with my work colleagues. I met up with Andrea and Maria at the town hall to talk with Mr. Ren\u00e9 and Ms. Sylvia on how the town is dealing with different issues and on the importance of cultural exchanges between the U.S. and France. In the last day, I met up with my host family to eat pizza and this is how my sejour in France ended.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this voyage, I learned a lot about the french culture and I had the opportunity to practice my french with the members of the jumelage and French people.
