.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> Pendant trois semaines cet \u00e9t\u00e9, je suis rest\u00e9e \u00e0 Saint-Germain-en-Laye avec Maria et Leo, deux autres \u00e9l\u00e8ves du lyc\u00e9e de Winchester, pour un \u00e9change culturel. J\u2019ai habit\u00e9 pour quelques jours chez Marc et Sylvie, et puis chez R\u00e9gine pour le reste de mon s\u00e9jour. R\u00e9gine et moi, nous aimons la musique classique et j'ai eu la chance d'assister \u00e0 quelques concerts en France. Aussi, j'ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer les \u00e9tudiants fran\u00e7ais qui ont arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 Winchester en juillet. C'\u00e9tait vraiment int\u00e9ressant de discuter les similarit\u00e9s et diff\u00e9rences entre leur \u00e9ducation et les n\u00f4tres aux \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p>\n

J'\u00e9tais vraiment impatient de travailler \u00e0 La CLEF parce qu\u2019ils sont tr\u00e8s impliqu\u00e9s dans la communaut\u00e9. \u00c0 La CLEF, on peut participer dans une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de cours pour apprendre beaucoup de choses comme la danse, les instruments de musique et les langues diff\u00e9rentes. Apr\u00e8s avoir suivi Fouzia lors de l'enregistrement de ces cours \u00e0 l\u2019accueil et plus tard quand j\u2019ai appris \u00e0 les faire moi-m\u00eame sur l\u2019ordinateur, je me suis rendu compte que tout le monde \u00e0 la CLEF \u00e9tait gentil, en particulier Fouzia, et j\u2019ai r\u00e9alis\u00e9 qu\u2019il y avait beaucoup de responsabilit\u00e9s dans chaque travail. Tout le monde travaillant \u00e0 La CLEF \u00e9tait vraiment gentil et patient avec moi. Aussi, j'ai eu l'occasion de travailler avec Busy Bees, l'\u00e9cole maternelle anglophone \u00e0 La CLEF, et je les ai aid\u00e9s avec leur pi\u00e8ce et un cours d'instrument de musique. Une autre chose qui me plaisait \u00e9tait la pr\u00e9paration des caf\u00e9s pour les \u00e9tudiants \u00e9trangers qui prendre des cours de fran\u00e7ais \u00e0 La CLEF, parce que l'environnement \u00e9tait chaleureux et accueillant. Pendant le dernier caf\u00e9, j'ai le plaisir de jouer un morceau sur mon violon comme musique de fond.<\/p>\n

En dehors du travail, j'ai explor\u00e9 les r\u00e9gions diff\u00e9rentes de France avec les membres du Jumelage. Pendant la premi\u00e8re semaine, j'ai assist\u00e9 \u00e0 une exposition d'art d'impressionnisme avec R\u00e9gine \u00e0 la Fondation Louis Vuitton. L\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re au lyc\u00e9e, j\u2019ai d\u00e9couvert et analys\u00e9 les techniques de l\u2019impression fran\u00e7aise, et j\u2019ai vraiment aim\u00e9 essayer de trouver ces aspects dans de nombreuses pi\u00e8ces que j\u2019ai vu. Pour voir l\u2019art de Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir, C\u00e9zanne et Van Gogh moi-m\u00eame \u00e9tait vraiment remarquable. Plus tard dans la semaine, je suis all\u00e9 au ch\u00e2teau de Monte Cristo avec Colette, la tante d'une des filles qui venait \u00e0 Winchester, et nous avons parl\u00e9 de la litt\u00e9rature fran\u00e7aise que j'avais \u00e9tudi\u00e9 dans ma classe de fran\u00e7ais. Nous avons aussi parl\u00e9 avec son voisin, qui a quitt\u00e9 Chicago pour habiter en France, et nous avons discut\u00e9 nos premi\u00e8res impressions de la culture fran\u00e7aise et de ce que nous avons trouv\u00e9 int\u00e9ressant dans la vie de tous les jours. Plus tard \u00e0 Paris, Maria, Leo et moi avons explor\u00e9 les magasins des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es et j\u2019ai pris beaucoup de photos \u00e0 l'Arc de Triomphe et \u00e0 la Tour Eiffel. Et puis, nous sommes all\u00e9s \u00e0 une f\u00eate s\u00e9n\u00e9galaise avec la famille d'accueil de Leo pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer le bapt\u00eame d'un membre de leur communaut\u00e9. J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir \u00e0 participer dans cette culture fran\u00e7aise diff\u00e9rent. Nous sommes \u00e9galement all\u00e9s en Normandie avec R\u00e9gine et une de ses amies o\u00f9 nous avons appris les caract\u00e9ristiques des b\u00e2timents traditionnels, puis nous avons explor\u00e9 la plage du Havre. La visite de Normandie cette ann\u00e9e \u00e9tait particuli\u00e8rement important pour moi \u00e0 cause du 75e anniversaire du jour J, une partie avec beaucoup d\u2019importance dans l'histoire de la France et des \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p>\n

Nous avons pass\u00e9 le deuxi\u00e8me week-end avec Allen et Julie \u00e0 explorer les jardins du ch\u00e2teau de Versailles, o\u00f9 nous avons ram\u00e9 un bateau et appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 les fontaines. Plus tard dans l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi, nous avons visit\u00e9 la ferme de Marie-Antoinette et, apr\u00e8s nous sommes retourn\u00e9s \u00e0 Saint-Germain-en-Laye, nous avons explor\u00e9 une foire d'art locale. Didier et Brigitte nous ont montr\u00e9 les quartiers historiques de Paris comme la Sainte-Chapelle et la Conciergerie. Pendant que nous sommes promen\u00e9s dans les rues, nous avons vu un march\u00e9 pour les animaux domestiques et apr\u00e8s nous avons regard\u00e9 un spectacle de patinage \u00e0 roulettes.<\/p>\n

Dans notre derni\u00e8re semaine, nous avons rencontr\u00e9 le Maire de Saint-Germain-en-Laye et nous avons discut\u00e9 avec Mme Sylvia et M Ren\u00e9 des mesures que les citoyens peuvent faire pour prot\u00e9ger l'environnement et de l'importance des \u00e9changes culturels pour les relations entre la France et les \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p>\n

Pendant ce voyage, j'ai beaucoup appris de la culture fran\u00e7aise et j'ai appliqu\u00e9 ce que j'avais appris en classe au monde r\u00e9el. Je veux remercier tous mes professeurs de fran\u00e7ais, l\u2019organisation Jumelage, mes familles d\u2019accueil et toutes les personnes que j\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9es en France pour avoir rendu ce voyage aussi m\u00e9morable que possible. Je souhaite de revenir bient\u00f4t!<\/p>\n

.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> For three weeks this summer, I stayed in Saint-Germain-en-Laye along with Maria and Leo, two other students from Winchester High School for a cultural exchange. I lived with Marc and Sylvie for the first few days, and then with Regine for the rest of my stay. Both Regine and I are very involved in music, and I was fortunate to be able to attend many concerts in France. I also had the pleasure of meeting the French students coming to Winchester this July. It was really interesting to learn about how their education path looked like in comparison to ours in the United States.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

I was really excited about my job at La CLEF because of its involvement in the community. At La CLEF, people can take a variety of classes to learn many things like dance, musical instruments, and different languages. Through following Fouzia with the registration of these classes at the welcome desk and later learning how to do registrations on the computer myself, I realized how kind everyone at La CLEF was, especially Fouzia, and how much responsibility there is with every job. Everyone working at La CLEF was really kind and patient with me. I also got to work with Busy Bees, the English preschool at La CLEF, and I helped them with their play and a musical instrument class. Another thing I liked was preparing for cafes for the foreign students taking French classes at La CLEF because of the warm and welcoming environment. During the last cafe, I also played a piece on my violin as background music.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Outside of work, I explored the different regions of France with the members of the Jumelage. During the first week, I went to an art exhibition on Impressionism with Regine at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. Last year in school we learned about and analyzed the techniques of French impressionism, and I really enjoyed trying to find these aspects in many of the pieces I saw. To see the work of Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Cezanne, and Van Gogh myself was truly remarkable. Later in the week, I visited the house of Monte Cristo with Colette, the aunt of one of the girls coming to Winchester and we talked about the French literature that I had studied in French class. We also talked with her neighbor, who moved to France from Chicago, and discussed our first impressions of French culture and what we found interesting about daily life there. Later in Paris, Maria, Leo and I explored the stores on the Champs Elysees and took pictures at the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. We also went to a Senegalese celebration with Leo\u2019s host family to celebrate the baptism of one of the members of their community. I had a lot of fun taking part in a different type of French culture. We also went to Normandy with Regine and one of her friends where we learned about the characteristics of the traditional buildings and then explored the beach in Le Havre. Being able to visit Normandy this year was particularly important to me because of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, a truly significant part of the shared history of France and the United States.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

We spent the second weekend with Allen and Julie exploring the gardens at the Palace of Versailles, where we got to row a boat and enjoy the fountains. Later in the afternoon, we also visited Marie Antoinette\u2019s farm, and when we came back to Saint-Germain-en-Laye, we explored the local art exposition\/fair. Didier and Bridgitte showed us the historical parts of Paris like Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie. Walking around the streets, we saw a pet market and watched roller skating street show.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

During our last week, we met the Mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and talked with Mme Sylvia and M Rene about the steps people take to protect the environment and the importance of cultural exchanges for the relationship between France and the United States.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Throughout this entire trip, I learned so much about French culture and was able to apply what I had learned in class to the real world. Thank you to all of my French teachers, the Jumelage organization, my host families, and everyone else I met in France for making such a memorable trip possible. I wish to come back soon!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
